(KMZA)--Plans are moving forward for the construction of a new EMS building in Seneca.

At its July 13th meeting, the Nemaha County Commission voted to award the construction bid to AHRS Construction of Bern for a new steel building, pending final contract approval and pricing on several add-on options.

The commission acted on the recommendation of County Counselor and County Administrator Austin Parker.

AHRS submitted a bid of nearly 623-thousand dollars to build the about 60-by-80-foot facility near the intersection of 7th and Nemaha Streets.

Three companies submitted bids for both wood and steel buildings when bids were opened June 29th. Commission Chairman Ben Glace noted there was only about a 5,400-dollar difference between the approved steel building bid and the lowest wood building bid.

In other business, commissioners voted to cancel the purchase of a utility terrain vehicle for Emergency Management because of matching fund constraints. They also appointed Shannon Stapleton to the Nemaha County Planning Commission to complete the unexpired term of Galen Ackerman, who resigned. Commissioners thanked Ackerman for his service on the planning commission.
