(KLZA)--Richardson County Commissioners discussed several equipment and maintenance issues during last week's meeting, including the replacement of Sheriff's Office patrol vehicles.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Dexter Holiday requested approval to replace three patrol units during the current fiscal year. Commissioners said they are prepared to approve the purchase of one vehicle now, with the remaining two requests to be considered after the county's budget review is complete.

The Board planned additional discussion at this week's meeting on whether to order a 2027 Ford F-150 Police Responder, priced at just under $50,000, or a 2027 Police Utility Vehicle, also equipped with a push bumper, at a slightly lower cost.

Highway Superintendent Steve Darveau Jr. reported road crews continue cleaning ditches and making bridge repairs. He said work on the Dawson Northwest project is nearly complete. Darveau also toured deteriorating sections of the hard-surfaced road south of Rulo with County Engineer Josh Keithley to develop repair plans.

Commissioners approved a $3,578 quote from Hayden Tower Service to remove a damaged, unused antenna from the courthouse roof to prevent it from breaking loose and damaging the building.

The Board also approved annual Southeast Nebraska Development District membership and housing dues totaling $6,634.

In other action, commissioners accepted the low bid of $5,752 from Justin Vonderschmidt to repair exterior courthouse drains. A competing bid from Sojka Plumbing was $6,451.
