(KNZA)--Voters in Jackson County will decide during the August 4 primary election whether to continue funding local road and bridge work through a special sales tax.

County commissioners voted in May to place a question on the ballot asking residents to renew the county’s four-tenths of a percent special retailers’ sales tax.

The tax was first approved by voters in 2004 and is set to expire at the end of this year. It currently brings in about 600-thousand dollars annually, which is used to pay for infrastructure projects across the county.

If renewed, the tax would continue funding road and bridge improvements. However, under the proposal, cities would no longer receive a share of the revenue.
