Atchison Co voters alerted to primary election deadlines

(KAIR)--Atchison County voters, in advance of the August 4 primary election, have one remaining satellite advance voting location this week, with the Cummings Christian Church hosting voters Thursday.

According to the Atchison County Clerk's Office, the Cummings site at 2583 McPherson Road will be open from 9:30 that morning until 3:00 that afternoon.

The clerk's office says in-person early voting also continues at the Atchison County Courthouse at 423 North 5th Street in Atchison through noon on Monday, August 3.

Extended hours of 7 AM to 7 PM are set for Monday July 27, Wednesday July 29, and Friday July 31. Regular hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM will be offered Tuesday July 28 and Thursday July 30.

A secure ballot drop box is also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in front of the courthouse. To be counted, ballots must be deposited there no later than 7 PM on Election Day, Tuesday, August 4.

The clerk's office notes two remaining deadlines, including that to request an advance mail ballot which is July 28, while the deadline to return a ballot to the drop box is 7:00 on the evening of August 4.

In the August primary, Atchison County Republicans are deciding the race for 2nd District Atchison County Commission selection, with John Calhoon and Randell Vanderweide seeking the approval of voters.

Additionally, voters are being asked whether or not to implement a one-cent countywide sales tax with a goal of lowering property taxes.
