Truck reported stolen in Atchison Co recovered hours later with Emporia-area arrest

(KAIR)--A pickup truck, reported stolen Tuesday morning from an Atchison County address, was located later on the Kansas Turnpike with one suspect arrested.

That's according to a release from Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie, who says the truck, reported stolen around 7:50, was later spotted on the turnpike, believed to have been southbound when the driver allegedly fled from pursuing law enforcement.

The Kansas Highway Patrol made the arrest, taking the suspect into custody without further incident, around 9:45 near Emporia.

Laurie credits "the assistance from multiple agencies including the KHP" for the quick location and recovery of the truck.

The truck had been parked at 23950 219th Road in Atchison County at the time it was stolen.

Information regarding the suspect was not immediately available late Tuesday morning.

A separate incident on an Atchison County roadway, occurring prior to the start of the work-week, saw a teenage motorist cited for driving nearly 100 mph on U.S. Highway 59.

According to Laurie, the driver, a 17-year-old boy from Winchester, was stopped around 9:00 Sunday night by a deputy who clocked him allegedly driving 96 mph in the 65 mph zone.

The teen was cited for the high speed.
