(KAIR)--The Buchanan County, Missouri Sheriff's Office is investigating after a 65-year-old man was shot and assaulted early Saturday morning.  

According to a release from the Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to Atchison's Amberwell Hospital around 7:30 that morning, where they spoke with the victim.  

Deputies say the incident happened at 11901 North Shore Drive, which online maps place at Rushville, Missouri. 

The victim, the release says, reported that two unknown men ran over his cat with their car, leading to an argument. One of the men then shot the victim in the head, and both assaulted him with a bicycle frame. 

The victim, whose name is not made public, was later flown by air ambulance to the University of Kansas Hospital, in Kansas City, Kansas, for treatment.  

The release says investigators have executed several search warrants & following leads, while asking that anyone with related information to call 816-236-8845 or 816-238-TIPS.
