(KLZA)--During the July 13 Auburn City Council meeting the Council on a 3-2 vote approved an ordinance to allow and regulate the operation of golf cars on city streets.
Council members Rick Janssen and Brian Lavigne cast the dissenting votes. 

Golf cars can only be used from sunrise to sunset and only on roads with a posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour or less, and not on state or federal highways.

The golf cars must carry liability insurance and can only be operated by drivers with a valid Class O operators license. 

The Council also approved moving forward with commissioning a copper sculpture to honor veterans as part of a $100,000 grant awarded to the Auburn Creative District by the Nebraska Arts Council. 

A proposal to complete a boundary survey and negotiate a purchase price for a parcel of land at the corner of 15th and Courthouse Avenue was also approved.  The purchase price cannot exceed $5,500.

Nebraska artist Mathew Placek will create the sculpture which will feature poppies as a symbol of remembrance.  The cost of the project is estimated at $52 thousand.
