All public school districts and many private schools in Kansas are participating. Families can apply any time, with forms available at local schools.
Children in households receiving food assistance, Temporary Assistance for Families, or who are in foster care automatically qualify for free meals. Families on WIC or Medicaid may also be eligible.
Officials encourage families to notify the school if their income changes or if anyone becomes unemployed. All information is confidential and only used to determine eligibility.
