Separate weekend drug arrests land two in Atchison Co Jail

(KAIR)--Atchison Police made two separate arrests Sunday related to drug possession.

According to a release from Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson, 55-year-old Paul Surber, of Atchison, was arrested around 11:00 Sunday morning in the 1000 block of Main Street.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and say Surber was driving without a license. He was charged with several traffic violations and was found to be in the alleged possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Following his arrest, Surber was booked into the Atchison County Jail.

Later that afternoon, 35-year-old Heather Abernathy, of Atchison, was arrested in the 900 block of Unity Street.

Wilson's release says an officer on patrol observed Abernathy and took her into custody on a Community Corrections detain order. She was also found to be in the alleged possession of synthetic marijuana.

Once in custody, Abernathy was booked into the county jail.
