Doniphan County awards road project contract

(KNZA)--The Doniphan County Commission has awarded a $66,000 contract for three road improvement projects on 175th Road, west of Oxide Road.

Commissioners Monday accepted the bid from Engemann Drainage Company to replace two crossroad culverts and rebuild a section of 175th Road by raising and widening the roadway.

Although Kent Kiefer Excavating submitted the low bids on two of the three projects, Second District Commissioner Warren Grable said Engemann's proposal included additional work to cap an existing drop box, eliminating extra labor and material costs for the county.

Commissioners voted 2-1 to award the contract, with Commissioner Grable and Commissioner Bobby Hall voting in favor and Commissioner Timothy Collins opposed.

During the discussion, Commissioner Hall also said Urban Construction should complete its current county road projects before bidding on additional work.
