Hiawatha hosts successful National Night Out

(KNZA)--The Hiawatha Police Department is thanking the many organizations, businesses and volunteers who helped make this year's National Night Out a success.

The annual community event was held Tuesday evening at the Fisher Center, giving residents an opportunity to meet local law enforcement, first responders and community service providers while learning about programs and resources available in the area.

Police Chief David Villanueva says the department was pleased to welcome children and families from Hiawatha and surrounding communities. He also recognized the dozens of agencies, businesses and volunteers who participated, along with local sponsors including Walmart, Sonic, Casey's, Farm & Home, Nigus Liquor and Citizens State Bank. Sonic donated corn dogs for the event.

Villanueva also credited Hiawatha Police Department Operations Supervisor Barb Mauslein for coordinating this year's National Night Out, saying the event would not have been possible without the support of community partners and volunteers.
