(KNZA)--The Brown County Commission is asking for more information before deciding whether to participate in a proposed Hiawatha housing development incentive district.

Hiawatha City Administrator Brad Scott discussed the Rural Housing Incentive District, or RHID, with commissioners July 31st. The district would support the Villas of Beautiful Maples project, which calls for 10 duplex units.

Scott said the RHID is critical to making the project possible. Commissioner Richard Tesoriero said the county has received several calls about the project and wants more details before making a decision.

Commissioners agreed to send a list of questions to Hiawatha officials before considering participation.

The Hiawatha City Commission approved the RHID ordinance July 27th. The ordinance is now in a 30-day protest period. If either the Brown County Commission or Hiawatha School Board adopts a resolution opposing the district, the city would have to repeal the ordinance.
