(KAIR)--A suspect is in custody after a vehicle theft investigation that began in Atchison and ended with an arrest in Leavenworth.

According to a release from Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson, 41-year-old Thomas White, of Lancaster, Ohio, was arrested in Leavenworth on Sunday, Aug. 2, on a District Court warrant charging him of burglary of a vehicle and theft.

The release says the warrant stems from a July 7 investigation after an SUV was taken from a convenience store parking lot at 4th Street and U.S. 59, in Atchison, shortly before 9:30 that morning.

Police say the victim left the keys in the vehicle while going into the store.

The vehicle was recovered later that day in Leavenworth, parked and unoccupied.

White was taken to the Atchison County Jail, where bond was set at $50,000.
