Brown County considers data center ban

(KNZA)--The Brown County Commission is considering prohibiting data and energy storage centers in the county.

County Planning Commission Chairman William Vonderschmidt met with commissioners Monday to discuss last week’s public hearing on a proposed zoning amendment.

Vonderschmidt said three people attended the hearing, with two speaking on the proposal. All Planning Commission members voted to approve the amendment.

Commissioners also discussed concerns about data centers, including noise. Commissioner Richard Tesoriero said the centers generate a large amount of noise, while Vonderschmidt said communities can struggle with their presence.

All three commissioners expressed support for prohibiting data and energy storage centers in Brown County, but no action was taken.
