(KAIR)--A 24-year-old Independence man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for a 2020 shooting death in Leavenworth County.

According to a release from the office of Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson, court records show the shooting happened around 2:00 on the morning of August 16th, 2020.

Following a brief altercation at a bar in Lansing, the victim left the parking lot in a vehicle. Two other vehicles eventually pursued that vehicle, with Joshua Craig identified as a passenger in one of them.

While traveling on Eisenhower Road in Leavenworth, Craig fired a gun in the direction of the victim's vehicle with the release saying the bullet shattered the rear window and struck the victim, who died as a result.

During the investigation, shell casings recovered from the scene were later compared to a firearm Craig admitted belonged to him.

Craig pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter on June 29th of this year.

On August 12th, a judge sentenced him to just over 10 years in prison and ordered him to pay more than $11,400 in restitution.
