(KNZA)--A new home has been found for the Freedom Rock monument in Doniphan County.

At the request of the Freedom Rock Foundation, the Troy City Council unanimously approved placement of the monument at the Troy Community Center during its August fifth meeting.

The move comes after the Kansas State Historic Preservation Office determined placing the monument in the Doniphan County Courthouse square would negatively impact the historic courthouse and surrounding historic district.

The five-by-seven-foot boulder will be painted by Iowa artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen the Second as a tribute to Doniphan County veterans.

Painting of the rock is scheduled for late September.
