F.C. Council approves ordinance on E-Bikes and scooters

(KLZA)--The Falls City Council Monday evening approved on first reading an ordinance to provide regulations of bicycles, E-Bikes, scooters, E-Scooters, skateboards, E-Skateboards, Hoverboards and skates.
Under the ordinance it would be unlawful for any person to operate these device on any sidewalk within the congested district of the City of Falls City.
 During the meeting the Council approved two amendments to the proposed ordinance.  One was to include scooters need to have headlights the other amendment from Council member Don Ferguson concerned the times the devices can be ridden to match the rules for golf carts that are allowed on city streets. The allowed hours of operation shall be from one-half hour after sunup to one-half hour prior to sundown.  
The devices may not be operated on any state or federal highway within the municipality accept to cross highways at a marked intersection.
Law Enforcement will have the authority to take immediate possession of,  and transport the device to the police department if an unaccompanied minor is in violation of any provision or operating it in an unsafe manner.
Violations of the provisions shall be considered traffic infractions and punishable by fines.
The Ordinance requires three readings to go into effect.
