Inmates die in custody, one in Jefferson Co, the other at Lansing

(KAIR)--A 23-year-old woman being held in the Jefferson County Jail has died after she was found injured inside the facility.

WIBW-TV is reporting that the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office identified the inmate as Savannah Crady. She had been booked into the jail on burglary charges.

Crady was found injured last Tuesday, August 18th. Corrections and medical staff provided aid until Jefferson County EMS arrived and took over emergency medical care.

Crady was pronounced dead the next day, August 19th, at a local hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Kansas Bureau of Investigation was immediately contacted after Crady was found injured and will investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

No additional details are being released at this time as the independent investigation continues.

The Jefferson County Sheriff says no foul play is suspected.

Then, this weekend, a Lansing Correctional Facility resident died, found unresponsive in his cell.

The Kansas Department of Corrections says 35-year-old Michael Moore died Saturday, August 22nd. Staff and Emergency Medical Services personnel administered life-saving measures but were unable to revive him.

The cause of death is pending the results of an independent autopsy.

The Kansas Department of Corrections and Kansas Bureau of Investigation are investigating Moore’s death, as required when a resident dies in state custody. The investigation is ongoing.

Moore was serving a sentence in Sedgwick County for convictions of driving under the influence, aggravated escape, possession of opiates, narcotics or stimulants, and robbery.

His earliest eligible release date was May 10th, 2031.
