WIBW-TV reports 39-year-old Derek Church was released from custody just under 3-hours after he was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on charges of rape and aggravated sexual battery, with an initial bond set at $150,000.
According to court documents reviewed by MSC News, his release followed a first appearance, through video conference Monday morning, after his request for a bond reduction to $10,000 was approved by the court.
According to court documents, the charges date back to August 31, 2016 and involve a victim who was around 24-years-old at the time she was allegedly attacked by Church. Additional details regarding their relationship are not made public.
Prior to the crimes alleged in the warrant, Church was not a known sex offender.
Church will make his next appearance in a Jefferson County District Courtroom, through video conference, on the morning of September 24 for a Scheduling Conference.
