(KAIR)--An Atchison man is facing arson and explosives charges following an explosion outside a residence Tuesday night.

Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson says 49-year-old Taurus Beadles was arrested Wednesday afternoon after the department’s Special Response Team executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of South 16th Street. Officers seized evidence during the search, and Beadles was taken into custody on charges of arson, criminal use of explosives and criminal threat.

Beadles was booked into custody at the Atchison County Jail. 

His arrest stems from an explosion that happened after 9:00 Tuesday night outside a residence in the 1500 block of South 8th Street which damaged the home’s siding and several windows. All damage was confined to the outside of the residence and no injuries are reported. Wilson says investigators believe some type  of explosive device was used to cause the damage. 

Atchison police officers and detectives are investigating with assistance from an Atchison Fire Department investigator and the Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office. 

Wilson says the investigation is continuing.
