Approval occurred following a tax rate and budget public hearing.
The 2026-27 budget was set at $5,720,374, and increase of $6,604.
The property tax rate will increase 19-cents per $100 of assessed valuation. The tax increase is due to minimal to no increase in assessed valuation and a decrease in state assessed railroad and utilities revenue from last year.
The tax rate increase will help recoup revenue that was lost.
In other business the Board approved the purchase of a skid steer loader and a John Deer Gator with a limit on the cost of the machines of $82-thousand.
Superintendent Korey Miles reported the 2004 John Deere tractor used for various tasks is getting older and is in need of hydraulic repair work.
A bid was awarded to Randy Derry for concrete work at the Ag building parking lot.
A maintenance contract was awarded to Design Mechanical for routine maintenance including the HVAC system, boiler, ice machine, walk-in freezer and coolers.
The Superintendent also reported work on the bathroom/locker room remodel project was wrapping up and that the high school girls and boys bathrooms would be back in working order before the start of the school year.
Miles also reported on a meeting he had with a roofing company to discuss a new roof on the High School building and possibly the AG / FACS building. The bid process for the projects will be in the coming months with the project to begin in the summer of 2027.
Concerns with the need for new siding and shingles for the bathrooms and shelter at the football field complex were discussed. Superintendent Miles said he does not want to spend money to fix up the bathrooms or shelter if it will be torn down in the near future, with the possibility of starting a baseball program at the school. No decisions were made.
High School Principal Jake Shipman reported enrollment in grades 9-12 at Mound City is 79 students.
