(KNZA)--The Hiawatha City Commission has adopted a 2027 budget of more than $8.9 million that remains revenue neutral.

Commissioners approved the budget and an ordinance appropriating funds during their meeting Monday evening. The action followed a public hearing that drew no comment.

The budget includes an estimated property tax rate of 34.27 mills, the city's revenue-neutral rate and about 1.8 mills lower than this year's levy.

That means the city expects to receive the same amount of property tax revenue in 2027 as in 2026, despite an increase in property valuations.

The city expects to collect more than $1.3 million in tax revenue, based on an assessed valuation of nearly $39 million.
