(KNZA)--A traffic stop in Jackson County has led to a drug arrest and the discovery of fraudulent identification documents.

Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says a deputy stopped a Honda Civic around 7:45 Wednesday morning on U.S. 75 near 126th Road.

The driver, identified as 34-year-old Leonel Palma-Perez of Omaha, Nebraska, was arrested for allegedly driving without a valid license and without required vehicle insurance.

Morse says a sheriff’s office police service dog then alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle.

A probable-cause search allegedly uncovered methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, fraudulent identification cards from several states and fraudulent Social Security cards.

Palma-Perez was booked into the Jackson County Jail on charges including drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended and failure to maintain vehicle insurance.

Morse says the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
