Jackson County sales tax vote returns

(KNZA)--Jackson County voters will get another chance this fall to decide whether to renew a special county sales tax to help fund road improvements.

The Holton Recorder reports the Jackson County Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to place the same four-tenths of one percent special retailers' sales tax question on the November 3 general election ballot.

The measure narrowly failed in the primary election.

The current sales tax generates about $600,000 a year for the county's road and bridge department.

If approved, the tax would be renewed for seven years. It was first approved by voters in 2004 and is set to expire March 31, 2027.
