(KAIR)--Benedictine College is set to formally dedicate its new Independence Hall-inspired library, with a U.S. Supreme Court Justice named to play a role in the September ceremony.
According to a release from the Atchison-based Catholic college, Justice Amy Coney Barrett will take part in the dedication of the Moritz Library in D’Aniello Hall on Saturday morning, September 26. The ceremony begins at 10:00 in the courtyard south of the library and is free and open to the public as part of Benedictine’s Family Weekend.
Barrett has served on the U.S. Supreme Court since October 2020.
The new 58,000-square-foot library was designed to resemble Independence Hall in Philadelphia. It includes museum-quality reproductions of the Liberty Bell and the Assembly Room where the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were debated and signed.
The facility houses more than 230,000 bound volumes, classrooms, a large coffee shop and three times the study space of the previous library. Benedictine’s history and political science departments and Center for Constitutional Liberty are also housed there.
