Fair season complete: Jefferson Co looks to future upgrades

(KAIR)--Several improvements have been completed at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, with additional projects now being considered.

According to unofficial minutes from the Jefferson County Commission’s August 24 meeting, Fair Board President Jason Roenne reported the show arena was expanded by about 1,300 square feet over the past year. The east beef barn was renovated and repainted, a digital thermostat was installed in the main building and 11 security cameras were added throughout the fairgrounds.

Future projects include creating exhibition space for rabbits and poultry, moving dog and horse activities to the fairgrounds and improving air movement in the show arena. The Fair Board is also considering new exterior siding for the Horticulture Barn and replacing the south bleachers with aluminum seating that includes safety rails and accommodations for people with disabilities.

Roenne said the 2026 Jefferson County Fair received 2,583 exhibit entries, with 48 expected to advance to the Kansas State Fair.

He added that the fairgrounds remain busy with rentals and other events throughout the year.
