Mission Lake algae advisory lifted

(KNZA)--The public health advisory for Mission Lake in Brown County has been lifted after blue-green algae levels dropped.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks say three other area lakes remain under a watch status — Hiawatha City Lake and Pony Creek Lake in Brown County, and Elkhorn Lake in Jackson County.

People are advised to avoid areas where algae is accumulating. Swimming, wading, skiing and jet skiing are discouraged near visible blooms.

Boating and fishing are allowed, but fish should be cleaned with potable water, and only the fillet portion should be eaten.
