Recreational support forthcoming for Jefferson County communties

(KAIR)--A request from the City of Perry for county funding could lead to recreational support for communities throughout Jefferson County.

According to unofficial minutes from the Jefferson County Commission’s August 24 meeting, Wesley Henning presented Perry’s request and outlined several projects delayed because of limited funding.

The proposed projects include restrooms at Railroad Park, improvements to basketball and pickleball courts, new park and fitness equipment, additional shaded areas, summer reading programs and equipment accessible to people with disabilities.

Henning said Perry does not expect the county to fund every identified need, but would use any contribution to complete as many projects as possible. He said most could be finished within the calendar year if funding becomes available.

Representatives from the city, school district, library, senior citizens, Perry Pride and a local church also attended.

Commissioners requested several weeks to review the proposal and develop a plan that could provide Parks and Recreation funding equitably to communities across the county.
