Heat advisory issued for listening area

(MSC News)-- A heat advisory is in effect through 8 p.m. Friday evening for Southeast Nebraska, Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri.

Heat index values of up to 105 degrees are expected with overnight lows only dropping to 75-80 degrees.

The hot temperatures combining with high humidity levels may cause heat illnesses. Several days of excessive heat will add to cumulative heat stress.

This heat advisory may be extended or expanded as the prolonged heatwave continues.

Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned space and stay out of the sun. In addition, you should check on your relatives and neighbors.

If you are going outside wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

If you notice symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke take action. Heat stroke is an emergency and you should call 9 1 1.
