USD 415 board approves leases with HBSC

(KNZA)---The Hiawatha School Board Wednesday night approved lease proposals with the Hiawatha Baseball and Softball Club.

Club representative Troy Kolb presented proposals for the softball field and Robinson Center at Noble Park.

The softball field lease would run for 10 years, beginning in 2026, at 15-thousand dollars a year.

The agreement calls for two 75-thousand-dollar lease payments. The first is due by October 31st of this year, with the second due by September 15th, 2027.

The board approved that lease on a six-to-one vote, with board member Roni Tiejens opposed.

The club also proposed a two-year lease for the Robinson Center, beginning in 2027, at 13-thousand dollars a year. That lease was approved unanimously.

In other business, the board approved the 2026-27 budget as published. It carries an estimated tax rate of 49-point-35 mills, slightly below the revenue-neutral rate. No one spoke during a public hearing on the budget.

The board also approved middle school cheerleading on a trial basis for the 2026-27 school year, with a two-thousand-dollar budget cap.
