In a release, Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie says the first wreck happened Friday on U.S. Highway 73 near Meade Road.
A 2023 Honda Accord driven by 24-year-old Evan Matt, of Lawrence, was westbound when it struck a 2016 Buick driven by 75-year-old Richard Malm, of Leavenworth. Traffic had begun slowing for another vehicle turning onto Meade Road.
Malm was transported by Atchison County EMS to Amberwell Atchison for treatment.
Following the investigation, Matt was arrested on suspicion of DUI and received additional citations. He was booked into the Atchison County Jail.
The second wreck was reported around 9:15 Saturday night near 278th Road and U.S. Highway 159 in Muscotah.
Deputies found a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe about 300 feet south of the road with no one inside. Investigators determined the driver missed a curve, struck a power pole and left the vehicle in a field.
A passerby later helped deputies locate 39-year-old Benjamin Wood, of Kirkland, Missouri, lying in the grass west of the wreck site.
Wood was taken to Amberwell Atchison with non-life-threatening injuries.
He was arrested for DUI and leaving the scene of an injury wreck, then released.
