Falls City Council votes to pre-pay OPPD contract

(KLZA)-- The Falls City Council voted unanimously last week to approve a prepayment agreement with the Omaha Public Power District as recommended by the Board of Public Works.

Under the agreement the City will pay OPPD $988,770 which equals the remaining 115 monthly payments owed under the transmission service agreement which runs through May 1, 2036.

By approving the agreement, it will allow Falls City to enter into Network Integration Transmission Service, known as NITS, giving the community the ability to purchase power from providers other the OPPD.

This will hopefully help the city with possible projects like NRG and Citoniq in the future.

Falls City receives electrical power from OPPD and will continue to do so through the end of the agreement in 2036.
