USD 377 board adopts 2026-27 budget

(KNZA)--The Board of Education for Atchison County USD 377 has finalized a nearly $13.3 million budget for the 2026-27 school year.

Board members officially voted to approve the new budget and passed a resolution to exceed the revenue-neutral rate following two separate public hearings at their September 9th meeting.

Under the new plan, the district expects to collect nearly 4.2 million dollars in local tax revenue. Property owners will see an estimated total tax rate of about 48.2 mills, which sits 4.8 mills above the revenue- neutral rate.

While the state set the base general fund levy at 20 mills, local increases are driving the change.

The board approved a resolution capping the local option budget at 33 percent of the general fund, with the supplemental general fund levy to increase 2.4 mills from last year.  Additionally, the capital outlay levy is up two mills--an increase approved back in May to help fund replacement of the district's track facility.
