Vanderweide named to vacant Atchison Co 2nd District Commission seat

(KAIR)--The Republican candidate seeking the open 2nd District Atchison County Commission seat in November's general election has been appointed to fill that role's unexpired term following a resignation.

Randell Vanderweide was selected to fill the position vacated by John Calhoon as the outcome of a court case involving him improperly serving in two county offices, that of commission and that of Jackson County Undersheriff.

Vanderweide was chosen for the role during an Atchison County GOP convention Tuesday night. Atchison County GOP Chairman, Derek Franklin, tells MSC News "the 2nd District Precinct chairmen and women appointed primary GOP winner [Vanderweide] to finish out the remaining appointed term of [Calhoon]."

Franklin is referencing Vanderweide's August primary election defeat of Calhoon, her then Republican challenger, who was then holding an unexpired term of the vacant seat.

Vanderweide is seeking election to hold the 2nd District Commission seat for a full term, challenged in the November 3 general election by Democrat John Settich.
