Governor Laura Kelly has proclaimed this week of September 13 through 18 as Family, Friend and Neighbor Care Provider Appreciation Week.
The Kansas Office of Early Childhood and Supporting Care Providers of Kansas began the observance Monday, September 14.
Family, Friend and Neighbor care providers have an existing relationship with the child. They can include grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, close friends and trusted neighbors.
State Early Childhood Director Christi Smith says these providers are an important part of Kansas’ child care system, especially for families with limited access to formal child care.
Supporting Care Providers of Kansas assists the caregivers through personalized visits, child development materials and other free resources intended to help children remain healthy, safe and ready to learn.
