The Nebraska attorney general's office reports the charges stem from an investigation into allegations that circulators improperly gathered signatures for a recall petition during the months of August and September of 2025, in an attempt to force a recall of Auburn Mayor Chris Erickson. 

 

301 signatures from registered voters in the city limits of Auburn were required to be verified to force the recall election. 

The Nebraska Attorney General's Office is serving as the prosecutor in the case.  The Nebraska State Patrol and Nemaha County Sheriff's Office conducted the investigation.

Both Curttright and Powell are scheduled to appear in court September 22.
