I-29 Closed in Holt County MO Update

(KLZA)-- Interstate 29 is closed both north and southbound in Holt County, Missouri, between mile marker 84 (Mound City) and mile marker 75 (Oregon) until further notice due to a vehicle crash involving hazardous materials.

The Missouri State Patrol said the tractor-trailer was hauling 4,000 pounds of sulfuric acid suspended with nitroglycerin.

An environmental cleaning company out of Kansas City is assisting with the cleanup.

Residents living within one mile of the hazmat spill on I-29 were evacuated from their homes Thursday morning. They were allowed to return to their homes Thursday afternoon.

With interstate traffic being directed to use U.S. Route 59 around the closure. Motorists should follow all signage and law enforcement direction.

Due to uncertainty of the situation with the crash, and traffic being routed through Highway 59, the Mound City School canceled classes on Thursday.
