Wathena's Summit expands; 80 jobs projected through $50 million investment

(KAIR)--New growth in Doniphan County is realized through an expansion for Summit Truck Bodies, expected to generate 80 additional jobs through the $50 million investment in Wathena.

The opening of the company's new facility was marked with a September 10 ribbon cutting attended by employees, community leaders and state and local officials.

The 220,000-square-foot addition includes 200,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 20,000 square feet of offices. It connects to Summit’s existing building, bringing the company’s total Wathena footprint to approximately 352,000 square feet.

Founded in Wathena in 2003, Summit manufactures service and lube truck bodies, hydraulic cranes, tool systems and electronic safety controls for customers across North America.

Company officials say the expansion will double production capacity, reduce lead times and provide room to expand sales, parts and service operations.

An economic impact analysis projects the expansion will generate more than $21 million in purchases during its first 10 years, supporting businesses and communities throughout the region.
