(KNZA)--The Doniphan County Commission has decided to continue operating the county transfer station, rather than turning operations over to Republic Services.

Republic Services representatives met with commissioners Monday to discuss a proposal for the company to operate the transfer station.

Chairman Wayne Grable said the best direction for the county is to continue running the facility, with Miller Trash Service currently operating it.

The county’s current agreement with Republic Services to haul waste from the transfer station to its landfill expires December 31st.

Republic Services said it would not make economic sense to continue hauling the waste unless it also operated the transfer station.

Miller Trash Service will now begin looking for a company to haul waste from the transfer station to an approved landfill beginning January first.
