(KLZA)-- A portion of Interstate 29 between Mound City and the Oregon, Missouri interchange reopened Thursday evening following a closure of both the southbound and northbound lane Thursday following a wreck around 9:15 a.m.

A semi that was eastbound on U.S. 159 Highway at East Olive Drive when it traveled off the side of the road and overturned. The truck was hauling 4,000 pounds of sulfuric acid that was suspended with nitroglycerin.

The driver of the truck, a 25-year-old male from Modesto, California suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Fairfax Community Hospital for treatment by the Atchison-Holt EMS.

Those living within a one mile radius of the wreck were asked to leave the area, but were allowed to return home late Thursday afternoon after an environmental cleaning company out of Kansas City assisted with the cleanup of the hazardous material.
