(KAIR)--The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirms a criminal investigation into Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd was underway at the time of his death.

The Patrol says its Division of Drug and Crime Control is leading the investigation.

Zahnd was found dead last Thursday inside the Platte County Courthouse. His cause of death has not been released.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation

Zahnd had served as Platte County prosecuting attorney since 2002.
