(KNZA)--A St. Joseph, Missouri, man is facing burglary charges after he was shot in the groin while allegedly trying to break into a home early Sunday morning.

KQ2-TV reports 44-year-old Thomas Davis allegedly entered a home in the 33-hundred block of Scott Street in northwest Buchanan County shortly before 3 Sunday morning.

Davis allegedly stole items from a counter and was confronted by the homeowner as he left.

The homeowner told investigators he believed Davis was armed and fired one shot, striking Davis.

Davis fled but was later found in a nearby alley. He was treated at Mosaic Life Care and released into police custody.
