The Kansas Department of Transportation says crews will mill and overlay approximately 16 miles of the highway, beginning at Horton and progressing southeast to Lancaster.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane where crews are working, with a pilot car and flaggers directing motorists through the construction zone. A 12-foot vehicle width restriction will also be in effect.
Work will take place during daylight hours Monday through Friday and is expected to continue into November, weather permitting.
Bettis Asphalt and Construction, of Topeka, is the prime contractor for the 3.3 million dollar project.
