(KNZA)--A Hiawatha housing assistance grant application has not been funded by the state.
That word came at Monday night’s Hiawatha City Commission meeting.
The city had applied for a 300-thousand-dollar Community Development Block Grant through the Kansas Department of Commerce for a housing rehabilitation project.
The grant would have helped about 20 to 25 low-to-moderate income households with home repairs, with a focus on roof replacements and repairs.
City Administrator Brad Scott said the application was not funded because of competition among communities and the limited amount of grant money available.
The city was encouraged to reapply, and Scott said the city plans to do so when additional funding becomes available.
