(KNZA)-Doniphan County is moving forward with a new public safety notification system.

Emergency Management Coordinator Scott Morris told the County Commission Monday that the county has been approved to participate in the regional Everbridge alert system.

The system’s cost will be fully covered by grant funds through the Northeast Region Homeland Security Council.

Doniphan County currently pays about six-thousand dollars a year for TextCaster, which sends emergency, weather and public safety alerts.

Commissioners agreed to move forward with the switch and gather more information about possible participation by county cities.
