(KNZA)--A boater was safely rescued from the Missouri River Friday morning after his 16-foot fishing boat ran out of fuel near the French Bottoms area.

Elwood Police Chief Brandon Whetstine says the man called for help after his boat lost propulsion and began drifting down the river.

The Missouri River was under a flood warning, with swift currents and floating debris creating dangerous conditions.

Elwood Police requested help from the St. Joseph Fire Department Water Rescue Team, Elwood Fire Department, Wathena Police and Doniphan County Emergency Management.

A county drone helped locate the drifting boat from the air.

The St. Joseph Fire Department Water Rescue Team then located the man and towed his boat to the ramp near the St. Joseph Casino.

The man was safely recovered and no injuries were reported.
