(KLZA)-- Richardson County Commissioners opened bids for rock hauling from the Whetrock Quarry in Murray, Nebraska to create a stockpile of road rock at Dawson when they met last Wednesday.
Seven bids were received ranging from $9.93 per ton up to $21.53 per ton.
All of the bids will receive further review by Highway Superintendent Steve Darvau Jr.
It is expected to bid will be awarded during the Boards Oct. 14th meeting.
Darveau updated the Board on maintenance of county roads due to the heavy rainfall in the area last week
Commissioners did authorize the purchase of a new rock dump trailer to replace one that is in need of repair.
Sheriff Rick Hardesty reported his department responded to 486 calls during the month of September of which 241 were traffic stops that resulted in 32 arrests.
Sheriff Hardesty reported that grant funding will be made available from the USDA for the purchase of a patrol unit, and that the Sheriff's Department would apply for the grant funding which if approved, would result in a budget reduction of around $50,000.
The Sheriff also reported that a reduction has been made in the amount of funds needed for salaries within the Sheriff's Budget and Communications Dispatch budget. The amount of the reductions will be just over $9,400.
It was also noted that the cost of providing meals to inmates in the jail will increase from $289, to $299 per day, and there will be an increase of 6-cents per meal served, going from $1.75 per meal to $1.81 per meal.
The price increase goes into effect October 8.
