Students, parents, families, alumni and community members are invited to the Homecoming bonfire beginning at 6:00 behind Saint Leo’s Hall. The bonfire, once a long standing tradition at the Catholic high school, had been retired for a number of years prior to its return last year.
Danielle Fuller, events and education manager for Maur Hill-Mount Academy, discussed the returning tradition during the latest edition of Better Living with Michelle on 93.7 FM. “The kids were so excited to bring it back," Fuller told host Michelle Urban. "This year, the seniors are actually the ones who are going to build it. So, they’re excited to do that. It’s going to be behind Saint Leo’s Hall, and we just want to invite the whole community to come out and enjoy it.”
The bonfire, accompanied by food trucks and a DJ, is one part of this week's showing of school spirit leading into Homecoming activities this coming Friday and Saturday.
Friday evening's celebration begins at 5:00 with a rededication ceremony for Saint Scholastica Hall. The girls’ residence hall is being renamed to honor the legacy of the Academy of Mount Saint Scholastica. Benedictine Sisters and monks will attend, with tours of the hall following the ceremony.
An alumni tailgate begins Friday evening at 5:30 at The Roost. The Maur Hill-Mount Academy Ravens will then face Effingham in the Homecoming football game, with kickoff at 7:00.
Saturday’s events begin that morning with the Raven Golf Classic.
Homecoming concludes with an alumni dinner beginning Saturday evening at 5:00 in Saint Michael’s Cafeteria. The evening will include a cocktail hour, dinner and class pictures.
