(KAIR)--New support is coming to aspiring business owners in Atchison through a grant awarded to Locally Atchison.
Funding from the Patterson Family Foundation will support the organization’s business incubator space which helps entrepreneurs lower startup costs by offering free or reduced rent.
Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jill Thorne tells MSC News applicants will pitch their business ideas to a panel, with the winning entrepreneur receiving the opportunity to operate from the incubator space, with the selection process similar to ABC’s "Shark Tank."
Thorne says the program is intended to help aspiring business owners take the next step by reducing one of the largest expenses associated with opening a business. That allows entrepreneurs to focus their money and attention on establishing and growing their operations.
Locally Atchison will hold its first pitch competition for the 2027–28 incubator space on November 19.
Those interested in opening a business are encouraged to present their ideas for a chance to be selected for the space.
The Patterson Family Foundation grant will help Locally Atchison continue encouraging entrepreneurship, strengthening the local business community and bringing new activity to downtown Atchison.
Additional information about the incubator program and pitch competition is available from Thorne at the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce.
