Updates on Falls City power plant

(KLZA)--Upgrades continue to be made at the Falls City Power Plant.
Monday night, City Administrator Gary Jorn provided updates to the City Council Monday evening on recent improvements to the facility including Engine #7 that took longer than anticipated due to the age of the infrastructure. The company will now need to find a date to come back and complete work on Engine #8.

Jorn said the work has included replacement of relays and meters at the plant.  He also complimented the power plant employees on their cooperative work with the SEL company on the upgrades and producing electricity without issues during a late September day to allow other work to be completed.

Engine 3 was utilized to produce approximately a a megawatt of electricity for nearly 9 hours without any outside support. Jorn called  it a step in the right direction to get the power plant into a reliable asset for the city.

The Council did approved the expenditure of $24,859 for a SCADA system to improve cyber security for the power plant and a recommendation from the Board of Public Works to have Farabee Mechanical move forward with a turbo cleaning and inspection of Engine #8 in an amount of $56,840.
